Memorial Day/The Beach Part 1

We've spent the last 2 Memorial Day Weekends at the beach with our best friends from Chattanooga. This year, we decided to go for the week and make it our summer vacation. You can read about our first vacation with our friends in 2013 (here) & last year's vacation (here). This was Hollon's first time at the beach. You can read about Jake's first time to the beach in 2010 (here).

The Strickland's got to our house Friday night. We all left Birmingham Saturday morning and headed down to my parent's condo in Seagrove. (A HUMONGOUS thank you to my parents for so generously letting us use the condo for an entire week.)
Addie was our built in little mama

Saturday afternoon, we headed down to the beach. It was Hollon's first time in the sand. She loved it.
except she didn't

In her defense, it was her naptime.
And I plopped her in the sand for a photo-op.
And she is a wee bit dramatic.
Jake of course loved it.

Sunday: First full day of the beach
This day was a rough day for our tents. First my parents brand new, never used, large canopy tent broke and collapsed due to wind. So during lunch, Kimberly & I head to Walmart to buy a replacement large tent. Then that afternoon, our brand new mini pop up tent (that we brought from home & we used for the kids to sleep in on the beach) broke and collapsed due to wind. This was a tent that was made for the beach wind. Needless to say, it was a frustrating day for tents. Thankfully the Strickland's brought their pop up tent. With better strategic planning, thankfully the rest of the week we had no more tent tragedies.

Hollon liked the beach as long as someone was holding her.

Last year Tyler wasn't sure of the beach. This year, he loved it!

Monday: Day 2
Robbie's grandfather (Granddad Jake) & his wife (GG Kathy) live in Niceville, which is not far from Seagrove. So we met in Destin for lunch.

That afternoon, we headed to the beach.
Hollon finally getting used to the sand.
She didn't just love it, but at least she wasn't crying.

I had to let her use her pacifier on the beach so she wouldn't eat the sand.

That evening Kimberly & I took the kids to the beach to get some pictures.

The kids took a silly picture
While Hollon ate the sand

Seriously

It was a wonder there was any sand left on the beach

You cannot see it in the picture, but Hollon had sand all over her face

Tuesday: Day 3
We started the morning at the beach.

Can we just take a moment for Jake's sunglasses?
They are adult sunglasses because the kids ones don't fit his big noggin.
He loved them because the looked like Robbie's.

2nd favorite sand toy after brother's snorkel? A cup.

That night, we had dinner at Stinky's Fish Camp.
