Field Trip to Alabaster Fire Station

Jake's class went on a field trip to a local fire station last Friday. I helped chaperon, and our school doesn't have a bus, so I had a car load full of kids. Jake was so excited to have his classmates riding with us. (And I can mark off 'be a bus driver' off my bucket list.) While the other 4 year old class toured the fire station, Jake's class played on the playground beside the fire station. I think Jake enjoyed the playground more than the fire station.

Waiting for our turn

Our turn to tour the fire station. The poor fireman giving the tour. I don't think he thought about the age of his audience. He kept asking them questions about how much did they think certain things cost (like how much the fire truck cost or how much does the jaws of life machine cost). It was kind of weird and of course the kids guessed $5 each time for each question. A lot of what he said completely went over the kids' heads, and really, they would have just enjoyed checking out the fire truck. It was just funny to watch the confused looks on the kids faces.

This is how Jake stood most of the time. He was paranoid that they were going to blow the horn the whole time. At the end, they finally did, but since the fire truck was inside and the doors were closed, and the kids were standing right there, it was so loud. It even hurt my ears. Some of the kids even started crying.
The fireman also liked asking the kids how much they thought things weighed. Again, way over the kids heads.

Jake & Parker finally getting to check out the fire truck.
