May - Recital, Last Days of School & Baptism

May was CRAZY! I felt like every day there was something going on during the day and evening, on top of our regularly scheduled stuff. But for as busy as it was, it was such good stuff. This stage in our life, I can get so wrapped up in running everywhere, that I forget to sometimes just be still and soak it up. To cherish this time and be oh so thankful for it. Because May really was, one of the best months ever.

This event actually happened back in April, but I forgot to post it in last month's recap [which is here]! Back in April, Robbie & Jake took another father/son pair and took the RV down to Auburn for a baseball weekend. A Friday & Saturday full of guy stuff. The boys thought it was neat to actually get to ride in the RV from Birmingham to Auburn (usually the RV is already parked during football season, so the kids never ride in it).

Dylan & Jake

They cooked out, watched baseball, played football & cornhole and just did guy stuff.
They had a boys weekend blast!

Jake kicked off May with career day at school. He choose astronaut.
What I should have done:
Ordered a costume off Amzon Prime and be done
What I did:
Attempted to make one the day before he needed it.
So here is Jake in a men's XL painters suit (lesson learned: painters are not typically small people because XL is the smallest they make painter's suits in). A helmet made out of paper mache (lesson learned: a 3-year-old is of absolutely no help when dealing with paper mache). NASA pictures printed and cut out and glued to painters suit to look like patches (lesson learned: no type of glue sticks to a painters suit). And a baseball belt (no lesson learned there).
His teacher posted some pictures of the kids. But this point, the NASA patches had fallen off. So Jake just looked like an Ebola nurse.

I taught the kids a game from my childhood that my brother & I made up. We would make up all kinds of crazy games centered around a balloon. It started off sweet between Jake & Hollon.

But of course turned to fighting & crying (just as it used to do back between my brother & me)

May was of course HOT, so we had lots of afternoon pool, sprinkler, water dates with our next-door neighbors.

We enjoyed quiet nights on the patio and occasionally actually got along

Hollon's gymnastics class showed off what they had learned throughout the year during their last class

Her teacher sent me this picture. Hollon LOVES to pick flowers.

I got to attend a Mother's Day Brunch with her at her school

Her picture she drew of me & her

We did a trial run of curling her hair. (Of course for her recital, they wanted their hair in a high ponytail & small curls. Hollon's hair is STRAIGHT AS A BOARD. But thankfully, sponge rollers did the trick for the most part.)

Friday night was the dress rehearsal. You could only take pictures & videos Friday night, so all of these are actually from the dress rehearsal.

Saturday was RECITAL DAY!!!! I don't know who was more excited, me or her.
She LOVED getting to put on makeup.
She did SO GOOD during the recital. Her recital group was only made up of the preschool (3YO, 4YO & K) and there was STILL 28 performances. Hollon's class was #26 to perform. She had to stay backstage with her class and no parents for over 2 hours. I had no idea how she would do once they finally got to come on stage. But thankfully she ROCKED it! I was so proud of her!

Afterwards they called each girls name out and presented them with a flower (which took foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr).
Hollon about to receive her rose
Hollon is one of those in the front row waving her flower in the air. It of course broke and she had a completely meltdown. We could not get out fast enough!

Outside & finally calmed down

And very happy with all the flowers everyone brought her (even with all these beautiful flowers, she still kept pouting about the broken flower)

Nana & Gran & cousins Maddox & Marrell came to see her perform
Sorry about the sun right in your face!
 And Mimi & Granddad

Hollon with her "big sisters"

Our family
Afterwards we all went out to eat and celebrated our little tiny dancer

Sunday was Mother's Day. We went to church and out to eat

And I enjoyed the day with these little people

Hollon's last day of school was Wednesday, May 16th

First & Last Day of 3K

The next day, their school had their end of the year program. And the kindergartners graduated.
Our next door neighbor Collins was a graduating kindergardener

After graduation, the kids did their musical

Hollon has been singing these songs for WEEKS

Afterwards, with her school bestie Christopher

Her teacher Mrs. Jennifer

And neighbor bestie Merrin

I snapped a few pictures of her afterwards

So, one day we were going somewhere & Hollon wanted a snack for in the car. I didn't want her to get food on her outfit, so I made her wear a bib. Well, she thought it was awesome and now wants to wear a bib everywhere😲.

On Friday, Jake had field day at school!

His teacher in the dunking booth
I was volunteering, so I didn't get to snap very many pictures

Then the following week, they had their class end of the year party
Jake and some of his classroom besties - Tristan, Mason & Hayden

One part of the party, they passed out white t-shirts and everyone signed each other

Hollon loves to stand in front of the mirror, watch herself & perform
#notvainatall

We had our last regular baseball game of the season. We only lost 1 game all season and were the area champs!

Jake's last day of school was Thursday, May 24th

First & Last Day of 3rd Grade

We ended May with the most special event. Jake was baptized. Jake had come to us over a year ago, and told us he felt like he was ready to ask God into his heart. We prayed, he spoke with the kids minister at our church (who we LOVE!) and attended classes on becoming a Christian. And finally this May he was baptized. There are lots of things with my kids that I cherish, but their relationship with our Heavenly Father is the most important. And sometimes I get so busy with all of the other stuff, I need that reminder, that THIS is what is most important.

We were so blessed to have so many friends & family attend. They all came to the church and then we had lunch at our house afterwards.
Uncle Billy, Aunt Leigh Ann, Maddox & Marrell

Our family!
Our next door neighbors came as well, but I didn't get a picture of them

Gran & his youngest 3 granddaughters

Sweet friends that live in our neighborhood, go to our church & are in his class at school
Hayden, Jake, Baker & Tristan
Gran & Nana

Aunt Lindsey, Uncle Brooks, Woody, Gaines & Mae Stanley

Aunt Andrea & Uncle Johnathan
(missing from photo: cousin Jackson)

Granddad & Mimi
(And Hollon mad that all of the attention was not on her)

It was a wonderful, wonderful May. Next up, will be our beach recap!
