Jake's Due Date

Yesterday, January 17, was Jake's actual due date. I can't imagine our lives the last 3 1/2 weeks without him. Even though his delivery was scary, I'm so grateful for the extra time with him. Just tonight, as I was rocking him to sleep, he was looking at me with those big blue eyes. Even though it was probably just gas, as he was starting to close his eyes, he had the biggest smile on his face. He just looked so sweet. I hope that Robbie & I bless his life just as much as he has already blessed ours.
How is this comfortable? Guess it reminds him of being squished in the womb!

The robe & slippers are a little large

Don't ask... his dad dressed him. Robbie has been dying for him to wear this onesie that someone made for us. I feel the same way about it Jake.

Welcome to the World Grant!

Jake's best friend, Grant Thomas Evans made his entrance last night. He was born at 7:34 PM. He weighed 8 lbs. 9 ozs. and was 21 inches long. Stephanie, Jonathan & Grant are all doing great. It was absolutely killing me yesterday to know that Stephanie was at the hospital giving birth & I was not there. I hate just waiting by the phone! I am counting down the days until we are able to travel down to see them. We are so excited for Grant to be here!! He is already so loved by so many people! Welcome Grant - We love you!!

Over the weekend

Hanging out in swing Robbie & Denise gave him. He loves it!
One of Jake's first videos. Sorry for the grainy finish, but I haven't mastered our new video camera yet. I can barely work our camera video! Please also ignore the following on this video:
1. Jake's shoulder pads. No, he is not wearing shoulder pads, but his shoulders are so little that most of his clothes still are way too big.
2. Jake's oily hair. He has mine & his father's oily blond hair. You go one day without washing it & your roots look so dark. Sorry son!
3. My annoying squeaky voice & unsteady hand!

Note- he was rolling his eyes at me!

Happy 2 Weeks Jake!

Jake turns 2 weeks old today. He continues to do great. He is still sleeping all the time (see pictures below) and is eating very well. The doctors warned us that he might be slow to latch on & eat since he was born early. He proved them wrong. This little guy can eat! We have gone through tons the dirty diapers to prove it. He is still latching on great, I'm not feeling any pain and we are attempting to get on a schedule. Some days we stick to our schedule better than others. We are getting there! Today is the first day that I am home alone with Jake. My mom left over the weekend and Robbie went back to work today. I miss the company. My mom was awesome doing a little bit of everything... from cleaning, to cooking to baby-sitting, she was great. I don't know if we would have made it through that first week without her. We are looking forward to her coming back next week. I am especially missing Robbie as well. I'm so glad that he was able to be home for Jake's first 2 weeks. It was great us getting to hang out together and bond with our son. I'm so lucky to be married to such a wonderful man and Jake is so lucky to have such an amazing father. We miss him today! In other exciting news (ha-ha), Jake's umbilical cord fell off today. I'm glad, it was gross. Now he can advance from only wearing gowns & tees!

Weekend Pictures

Happy New Year! Jake was very excited about 2009 & his hat.Wrapped in the blanket my Grandmother Maddox made for him.

Sorry for all the pictures of him sleeping, but that is pretty much all he does!
A picture of him awake!

Christmas Party

This post is a little late. I was about to add it to the blog Christmas Eve night, but a little thing called having a baby came before I could do so. These pictures are from a Christmas Party the Friday before Jake came.

Our last picture as a family of 2. I am 36 weeks in this picture.

Class of '97! High school friends - the guys went to McCallie & the girls went to GPS.

Happy 1 Week Jake!

Last night, Jake slept in his big boy crib in his room. He did so good! We didn't figure that he would last the entire night in the crib, but he did! And I only got up 50 times to make sure that he was okay.

The saying above his crib says it all

Playing with his puppy dog while wearing puppy pj's. (Robbie just shakes his head as I set up this photo-op!)

After a hard day of sleeping, he needed to take a nap

Good-bye 2008

On this last day of 2008, I'm a little sad to see it come to an end. It has been the best and most exciting year of my life. But, it just makes me excited & look forward to enjoying 2009 with all of the blessings that 2008 gave me. We celebrated the year with the birth of many our friend's children. We welcomed in the beginning of the year Rowen, Henry & Gabe. In April, Robbie & I were married. At the time, I thought that would be the biggest day in my life that year. I look at marriage as a journey. There are good times and bad, hard times & happy times. But no matter what, you go through them together. I couldn't imagine marrying a better man for me to walk beside me through this journey. I just didn't realize our journey was going to get so exciting so quickly! Finding out we were pregnant was an absolute shock. Finding out that my best friend was also pregnant, and in fact due 2 days after us was an even bigger shock. I will never forget the day Stephanie & I telling each. It has been wonderful going through the pregnancy with my best friend. We share our fears, excitement & anticipation with each other weekly. I am now on pins & needles waiting for Grant to arrive! Stephanie & Jonathan are an amazing couple, amazing friends & are going to make amazing parents. During the spring & summer we welcomed new baby friends Tucker & Anna James. We celebrated my sister's wedding and welcome Brooks to our family. In the fall we welcomed my new niece Marrell and celebrated Robbie's 30th birthday. In the winter, we welcome new baby friends Mary Tyler & Connor and I celebrated my own 30th birthday. And then finally, we end 2008 with the birth of our own son, Jake. He was a surprise when we found out about him and he wanted to make sure that his arrival was a surprise as well! He is the greatest Christmas present I've ever received. So good-bye 2008. Thank you for all that you brought us!!

Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help. You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever. Psalm 30:10-12
